Regular readers of this magazine know that I have definite ideas about wine. As my bio page tells you:
If you ask him what his favorite wine is, he’d ask you what does he get to eat with it. If you pressed with the “one type of wine on a secluded island” question, he’d say “good bubbles.”
Good bubbles, aka champagne, is a wine that can be enjoyed in almost any setting, with almost any food. It can sipped on its own of course, or with oysters, with lobster bisque, with a fresh green salad, with caviar, with buffalo wings (yep, try it instead of a beer), with chicken, with fish, with steak (yep, try it instead of a beer), a burger (yep, try it instead of a beer), with desert, and at the end of a NASCAR victory. Name me any other wine that has so much versatility.

Better wrap that post-Thanksgiving turkey sandwich to go, because you're 
going to have to get up real early Friday morning. Black Friday, the day after
Thanksgiving, is the traditional beginning of the holiday shopping frenzy and this year the big boxes are off to an even more ridiculous start than usual.
Target, Macy's, and Kmart want you to be at their stores at six am; Best Buy, Circuit City and Sears want you to start shopping at five am; and the award for the absolutely most ridiculous opening hour is shared by Kohl's and JC Penny: four o'clock in the morning! That's not the day after Thanksgiving, that's still the night of Thanksgiving!

Red wine grapes contain a component called resveratrol. Several research studies published last year found that mice that were fed this component lived longer. Since then sales of red wine supplements has grown more that 300 percent, according to NPR. The article Red Wine Pills: Buyer Beware, by Allison Aubrey, looks into these supplements:
Since there's no official recommended dose for resveratrol and no government regulation of the supplement, distributors are free to sell and say just about anything about their products. The Food and Drug Administration doesn't step in unless there are reports of harm.
There are intriguing findings in the animal studies of resveratrol, showing the compound has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. "The challenge is, of course, that we don't have any good clinical trials — in other words, human trials," says Dr. Brent Bauer, who specializes in alternative and complementary medicine at the Mayo Clinic.

Heritage on the Table
Benjamin Franklin wanted the indigenous wild turkey to be America’s national bird rather than the eagle (the eagle was already used by many European nations). Ben didn’t get his way, but the turkey does hold an honored place in the American psyche, at least on Thanksgiving Day. On that day, we Americans pop more than 46 million Butterballs into the oven and gather around the table for one of our most cherished meals, celebrating the Pilgrims’ survival of their first winter in the new world. Of course, a supermarket Butterball ain’t the turkey the pilgrims ate.
