Hair Conditioning Wrap
The Mayans from Central America, Mexico, and Guatemala use their natural local resources to adorn their bodies and create their own unique beauty. We can learn from their approach toward natural beauty using foods. I love this Hair Conditioning Wrap using their local produce of bananas and avocado to create a luscious hair treatment. It will help moisturize your scalp and hair, strengthen your hair, and give it a shiny luster.
The first time I made this hair wrap at home, my boys were keen to help puree the ingredients in the food processor (they love helping me in the kitchen, especially pressing the buttons on the food processor!). When they realized I was going to put this green stuff on my hair they were a little shocked! “Mummy, are you sure that’s a good idea?” they asked! But after they watched me massage it into my hair for a few minutes, they thought it looked like fun and wanted to have some in their hair too!
We don’t hesitate putting good food into our bodies, but somehow using foods on our bodies, as a beauty treatment, can seem a little odd. I prefer using foods as beauty treatments rather than chemical based, manufactured, products. It makes so much sense: beauty from the inside comes from the oils, vitamins, and other nutrients we get from eating the proper foods. But eating isn’t the only way our bodies can get those nutrients: plants and foods have been used to achieve natural beauty long before there was a cosmetics industry.
I invite you to try this wrap for yourself. You’ll be delighted with the results. Your hair will have more volume, feel thicker and be shinier. Let us know how it worked for you!
And remember, even when using food as an external treatment, always take into account any food allergies you, or others, may have.
Recipe: Beautiful Eating Hair Wrap
Makes enough for one treatment for medium length hair.
Puree in a blender or food processor:
Half a ripe avocado: provides essential fatty acids to moisturize the scalp
1 tbsp olive oil: helps give shine and moisture to your hair
Half small banana: rich in antioxidant vitamins A, C and E
1 egg yolk: supplies protein to strengthen your hair (Vegan option: omit the egg.)
Remove the mask from the food processor and place in a bowl.
• Gently massage 2-3 tablespoons of the puree at a time onto your hair and scalp.
• Massaging the scalp stimulates circulation and blood flow promoting healthy hair.
• Continue applying and massaging scalp and hair until the puree has been completely and evenly applied.
• Now cover with a shower cap (the wrap), relax, and try to feel the sensation of your hair absorbing the oils, vitamins and proteins.
• Leave on 1 hour then rinse thoroughly with warm water. Shampoo the puree out, rinse thoroughly and dry as usual. Notice the volume and shine from these nutrients.
Enjoy the feeling of your newly revived hair from a Beautiful Eating Hair Conditioning Mask!
